THE SCENE: A rarefied group of editors, stylist, and fashion personalities, packed the SoHo event space at 82 Mercer St., to view Levi’s first runway presentation as drinks and food was passed. The presentation included models engaging in ludic behavior such as “getting dressed” in front of editors and riding a bike. The presentation concluded with a performance from a banjo player
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Levi’s has done an impressive job of “jazzing” denim with their Fall 2012 collection; and in line with the company’s new direction to elevate the brand. Sure it’s still denim but the collection features a great mix of sophisticated looks paired with traditional denim pairings. So the Levi’s traditionalist will be happy and those who are apprehensive will view the brand with fresh eyes. For women– expect skinny jeans “reinvented,” in Levi’s Bootcut Skinny jeans, and some sweet denim skirts. And, for men– look for a hip mix of bold, slightly tapered and flattering denim pants/jeans for the hipster sets; and the cool jackets for the swagger set. Highlights include–the long fitted denim skirt, and the denim jacket.
