Serena Williams Dazzles at her Hamptons Magazine Launch Party

Southeast Asian restaurant, Pranna, was buzzing with activity this past Wednesday (August 25), as guests gathered around to celebrate niche media new Hamptons‘ magazine cover with Serena Williams. The gorgeous crowd of taste-makers, socialites and media professionals, danced, enjoyed specialty cocktails from Grey Goose and sampled Honey Deuce (a delicious drink infused with honeydew) the official drink of the U.S Open. Additionally, a uniform clad waitstaff passed a special selection of delicious bites from the restaurant, as attendees waited for the guest of honor to arrive.

A fresh-faced Serena Williams looked absolutely stunning despite a recent injury that left the reigning world singles tennis champ with an unsightly leg brace and her arrival definitely caused a stir. And, with good reason she was glowing. Indeed, the tennis star’s dazzling appearance led to rumors of plastic surgery. Whatever the reason for the recent change, its undeniable that she looked great at the festive cover launch affair.

Serena, received a welcome introduction from good friend Russell Simmons, thanked the audience for coming to enjoy the special night with her and took the opportunity to raise raising awareness to the Diamond Empowerment Fund.

The issue is currently in newsstands everywhere.

Levi’s Launches “Levi’s Curve ID”

08/25/2010 Around Town, Fashion No Comments Posted by Lorna

For some reason, I decided that denim jeans was not for me. Just like that, I stopped wearing any jeans; I felt that they didn’t flatter my figure and I did not find them stylish. So, I was happy with my decision and never ever looked back. However, it seems the universe has other plans for me and its actively campaigning for me to reconsider my stance on jeans. You see, I was gifted with Hello Skinny Jeans, which much to my surprised I loved; then, the fabulous people behind Charlotte Russe gave a pair of Jeggins and like my Hello’s! – I love my jeggings and I am not ashamed to admit it. And, now Levi’s is getting in on the action. I received a very enticing invitation to attend a media party to eat ice cream, drink, eat, preview their line and take home a pair of jeans. Uhm yes, I was sold.

It seems Levi’s has finally figured out what we women have known for a long time that – “All Asses Were Not Created Equal.” Boy, I know. So, they created a line of denim jeans for three shapes. So, they are jeggins, straight leg pants, boot cut, all individually designed for the three shapes. Smart, right? What’s even smarter the lovely staff will measure and tell your shape. No need to guess.

Here are the lines:

Slight Curvedesigned to celebrate straight figures Slight Curve is designed to define a woman’s waist, while accentuating her curves. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs but are too tight in the waist, a woman should try the Slight Curve.

Demi Curvedesigned to fit even proportions Demi Curve is designed to flatter a woman’s waist, while smoothing her shape. If jeans usually fit in the waist, but don’t flatter the figure, a woman should try the Demi Curve.

Bold Curvedesigned to honor genuine curves Bold Curve is designed to hug the waist, without gapping or pulling. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs, but gap in the back, a woman should try the Bold Curve.

I am a demi curve and I seriously love the way my new jeans fit and they are super stylish. How can it not be? Its Levi’s after all.

Want a pair for yourself? Well, if you are NYC, Levi’s is offering giving New Yorkers an opportunity to get a free pair of jeans. Details here.

We Attended the Salon Bourbon Bourgeois Soiree

Fab! recently attended the Salon Bourbon Bourgeois event, a jazz music Benefit, to support Music for Tomorrow (MFT). Founded by writer Doug Brinkley, musician Irvin Mayfield and actor Jude Law, Music for Tomorrow, assists Katrina displaced New Orleans jazz musicians find work. So, for a small Fee MFT helps interested people find jazz musicians to perform at local events/celebrations. The fee that is charged, is then used for charitable causes that support the New Orleans creative economy.

It should be come as no surprise that attendees at the Salon Bourbon Bourgeois event were treated to a musical performance from Jazz musicians.  The Jambalaya Jazz Band got the party started with a rousing Jazz performance inspired by the sounds of New Orleans.  The soiree also included southern style food, delicious cocktails and was held at a private East Hampton residence.

First Look: Def Jam Rapstar Game

08/11/2010 Around Town No Comments Posted by Lorna

To help those Karaoke loving Hip-Hop aficionados, many of whom (I am told) are forced to sing “YMCA” in random Karaoke bars to satisfy their love of “music,” Def Jam created a new rap inspired karaoke video game.  The Def Jam Rapstar game, is the first of its kind to offer a true interactive Hip Hop music game experience.  Sadly, the video game won’t hit shelves until October 5th, 2010, but a select few (myself included) got a chance to preview the game at  (my favorite rooftop in NYC) Cooper Square Hotel Rooftop.  Now, if the reception for the game at the party is any indication of what’s to come – then expect a lot because this game is going to be huge.

This fun game will feature more than 40 of the greatest Hip Hop songs; song likes Public Enemy’s song “Fight The Power,” to Nas’s “Hate Me Now” to  Nelly’s “Hot in Here,” and so many more  songs.  With that impressive selection of songs, everyone can try being the next Diddy in the comfort of home without the shameful fear of being discovered by friends and deemed not cool.

For those “rappers” who think they have what it takes, the makers of Def Jam Rapstar created a fully integrated community were gamers can upload video to the community.  Who doesn’t love that? We do.

While you drool with anticipation, check out video of “performers” from the preview party.  And, if you really can’t wait, the check out the Def Jam Rapstar game website for a sneak peek.

Bacardi Hosts After Party with The Black Eyed Peas at Avenue

Last night (August 4th), Apl.de.ap, Will.i.Am and Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas attended the Bacardi After Party for the group’s performance at TD Garden (Newark, NJ).   The private celebration which was held at AVENUE’s VIP room also celebrated the launch of Taboo’s Delta 3008 collection for Footaction.

The stylish and affordable Delta 3008 collection was on full display throughout the venue.  The fancy footwear, which range in price from $65 to $85, feature a wide array of sneakers from low-tops, to mid-tops along with high-tops in a series of colorful hues.  Taboo, clearly overjoyed with his collection (or maybe his beautiful wife) made the rounds of the small venue, answered questions from the press, and snapped/posed for pictures.  Will.i.Am, noticeable low-key did not pose for pictures for the photographers but did take camera phone pictures with guests.   Fellow band-mate Apl.de.ap sat back in the VIP VIP section with his peeps.
