VF + Lacoste Host Royal Pains Premiere Party

06/02/2010 Around Town, giveaways/Promotions No Comments Posted by Lorna

Last night, Vanity Fair along with Lacoste joined forces to toast the cast of Royal of Pains as they celebrated the second season of the show. The premiere party was held at the Lacoste Fifth avenue Boutique, and was PACKED wall-to-wall with guests eager to mingle with the show stars; The celebration was complete cocktails and food.

The show is partly inspired from the real doctors at Doctors Without Borders. And, seeing as this was the premiere party I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the show during the party but sadly this was not the case. So, I drank the sparkling wine, enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres, and tried my darnedest not to bump into anyone by staying stationary – I was mildly successful. Though, I avoided the massive crowd, I still spotted Mark Feuerstein, along with Reshma Shetty as they cheerfully chatted with each other and friends. Quickly after spotting the two stars, while the party was fun, the crowded place was not. So, I found the exit and left.

Upon leaving guests received a $50 gift card to Lacoste. Sad, you didn’t get a card? Luckily, Lacoste is giving mood and offering the general public the opportunity to get a gift card. Want one? The process is simple and consumers who take the challenge will also help Doctor’s without borders.

04/27/2010 Around Town No Comments Posted by Lorna

Champagne, wine and beer were flowing from the open bar at Bubble Lounge Thursday night in celebration for the Canadian Film Centre and their welcome to the Tribeca Film Festival.  Guests nibbled on penne pesto with asparagus and strawberries dipped in warmed semi-sweet dark chocolate as they listened to Barry Patterson, director of marketing & communications at the CFC, talk about the centre and it’s contributions to film and television to the world.

The Canadian Film Centre’s goal is to “…craft truly collaborative television dramas with universal storytelling themes that overcome the inherent challenges of co-productions, which Canadians pioneered,” states Christine Shipman, senior VP of TV drama and factual content at Canwest Broadcasting.  The CFC was proud to celebrate the two original series “Flashpoint” on CBS and “The Listener” on NBC, both spawned in Canada.  Collaborating with international partners to develop and produce product for international sale is familiar territory for Canadians and also an area that they look forward to expanding financially, technically, and dramatically.  Patterson, also highlighted the CFC’s partnering with the National Film Board of Canada to foster a new generation of documentary filmmakers.

Tamir Muhammad, program manager for Tribeca All Access stated “the CFC and Tribeca are similar in aiming to match working filmmakers from under-represented communities with industry mentors and networking opportunities.”  There will be so many more thrilling things to come from the Canadian Film Centre, keep a look out.

It was a warm welcome and a great space to be welcomed in as well. Bubble Lounge set the perfect backdrop for the event with it’s rich, woodsy interior and cozy, intimate ambiance.  One of it’s exciting features is already underway for 2010.  “Bubbly Treasures”, a spring-summer bubbly passport to champagne weekly features.  Every week a new champagne is featured and there is a champagne sommelier every Wednesday night sharing the info on the featured weekly champagne, and there are prizes to be won!  Take part in Bubbly Treasures now through September 18th and enjoy what Bubble Lounge has to offer.  For more information on the Canadian Film Centre go to www.cfccreates.com and for more information on Bubble Lounge go to www.bubblelounge.com.  Film lovers and bubbly lovers alike…enjoy!!

It was a night of celebration and hope at BLVD, located at 199 Bowery St., as the crowd gathered for a benefit against cancer.  The ticketed event (price range from $4 to $10000) supports the Music Against Myeloma Foundation.  So,  monies raised directly benefit IMF, the biggest Myeloma cancer foundation.

The night was sponsored by salesforce.com and the open bar was provided by Stella beerMike Katz, the vice president of IMF, and a spokesperson for the night, was diagnosed twenty years ago with multiple Myeloma and was told he had two to three years to live, and is still fighting the disease.  The night was organized by Slava Rubin, who lost his father to Myeloma when he was in high school, and keeps his memory alive by his activism against this disease.

Music from Natalie Gelman, kicked off the nights celebration, followed by music from rock alternative band Canon Logic; and event finished with music from the headliner Eclectic Method who stole the show. The veejays have been touring internationally for eight years and no song or genre is safe with them as they can mix any track or record from Jay-Z to the Violent Femmes to Smokey Robinson to Elvis Presley to Lady Gaga to Nirvana to Rick James and many more. They’re mixes have you moving no matter how they spin it. Look for Eclectic Method mixes on Itunes or from your favorite underground music store.

The festive affair was complete with a number of giveaways through raffle, including a free month of yoga, book giveaways from Time magazine, and a week vacation to a tropical island. Gift-bags, included a 2 day pass to Equinox gym provided by Zachary Williams, two free music skins for cell phones from music skins.com, and a bag of potato chips proved by Pop chips.

It was a great night to fight for a great cause and everyone had fun in the process.

tokidoki for Sephora “Dangerously Fun” Launch Party

post thumbnail

tokidoki, a funky and brightly animated-Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand founded by Italian designer Simone Legno, teamed up with up Sephora to create a delightfully fun makeup line that is youthful and hip.

To celebrate the collaboration, Sephora, held a “Dangerously Fun” themed preview party at Arena were products from the line were on display and guests were treated to mini-makeovers. The party was complete with an indoor skateboard rink, tokidoki inspired characters in costumes (like SANDY), a performance by the band Tina Parol, carnival style food, such as cotton candy and doughnuts. Best of all there was also a runway show demonstrating the products from the brand; and of course an appearance by tokidoki founder Simone Legno, who answered questions from eager guests as he presented the collection.

The line features the playfulness of the tokidoki universe characters along with great shades, for the eyes, lips and face along with tokidoki decorated tools and accessories. Proud of the collection Simone Legno, has said “the creation of these tokidoki cosmetics has given me a completely new way to express my characters and their universe,” and “doing it as a Sephora exclusive made perfect sense – they understand the relationship between fun, creativity, self-expression and color unlike any other retailer.”

Frankly, the result are rather impressive. So, don’t let the cute decor fool you because the colors from the collection are fierce – the Cromatico Eyeshadow Palette ($25) is certainly a must have for make-up lovers. And, the accessories are absolutely adorable. I love my tokidoki shirt, along with the make-up that I received just for attending.

Sadly, you will have to wait till May to get your hands on the tokidoki collection.

Gristle: from Factory Farms to Food Safety book release party

04/09/2010 Around Town , No Comments Posted by Lorna

It was a festive night at Powerhouse Arena Tuesday night as everyone gathered for the release of the book Gristle: from Factory Farms to Food Safety written by Moby and Miyun Park.  An open bar of wine and champagne flowed and everyone mingled and browsed the array of books and photographs that filled the spacious floor of the Arena.  A particularly favorite drink for the night, Savia Viva Brut, tickled the taste buds of partygoers with it’s semi-dry yet fruity taste.  The night reached it’s peak when Moby and Miyun Park, along with contributors Paul Willis, Tom O’Hagan and Brendan Brazier, spoke to everyone who attended.  They were welcoming and thankful, yet the crowd was left wanting to hear more from the authors about the book Gristle, and few questions and insights were answered or revealed.

The book signing commenced immediately after this very brief chat. Gristle came about because of the need to end animal suffering.  Moby and Miyun Park are long time vegans who fight for the protection and safety of animals, wild and factory farmed. Moby did recognize his long time close friend, John Joseph, whose book Meat is for Pussies, is being released the end of this month.  Moby sighted it as a great read in conjunction with Gristle.  John Joseph has been a vegan for over thirty years, having started his vegan journey as a roadie security for the band Bad Brains in his early years.  His aim for the book, Meat is for Pussies, is toward men (yet women can find value in the book as well) to discredit the misnomer that you have to eat meat to be macho.  Both books aim to get you to rethink the meat you eat from two different perspectives.

It was a fun night in Dumbo at the Powerhouse Arena.  Though not a lot was revealed about the book, it was enlightening enough to make one want to delve into Gristle’s pages to discover the true contents of what you eat, and quite possibly, why you eat it.  Gristle: from Factory Farms to Food Safety is in stores now and look for Meat is for Pussies in stores by the end of the month.

Cheers,
Lori Richardson
