08/29/2010 Fashion , No Comments Posted by Lorna

On September 11, 2010 – Guatemalan designer, Manuel De la Cruz, will present his Spring/Summer 2011 collection at Metropolitan Pavilion. The collection, which we have advance images of (see above), was inspired by “Semana Santa” or Holy Week and will draw from the local traditions of Guatemala.

According to the release this collection will incorporate, “black, purple, light blue, and baby pink to create a chic and sophisticated allusion to the colorful nature of the tradition. The women’s collection will be accented by hand embroidered belts and will include sheer cocktail dresses in soft silky blended fabrics such as chiffon, silk cotton, double face duchess satin, silk Georgette and French lace. The men’s collection will consist of tailored pieces with a modern allusion to classic shapes. The materials will include wool blends for the suits, and contrasting silk duchess satin for the jackets as well as trousers.”

Target Presents Fall 2010 Collection with a Dazzling Light Show at The Standard

Remember when I told you to get your lawn chairs and beach blankets ready for the Target Spectacular – because the retailer promised a show unlike anything anyone has ever seen before. Boy, did they deliver as the presentation was truly (for lack of a better word) spectacular.

Target, one of the world’s largest retailer, reportedly spent $1.5 million to produce the show. And, its easy to determine where the money was spent. Let’s see, Target rented 155 rooms at the swanky Standard Hotel, hired dozens of dancers, hired a composer to create original music, and let’s not forget about the light show. Its hard to put into words how fantastic this light show was and was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Let’s see – remember Madonna’s Human Nature Video were dancers moved in these boxes to the music? Well the show was similar to that video, expect this presentation was 10000000000x better. There was this feeling of voyeurism as dancer after dancer peeked into a window and performed. And, then there was a feeling excitement and anticipation of what was to come.

Great show and great party with some notable attendees including Nina Garcia, Olivia Palermo, Katrina Bowden, and Harvey Weinstein, Georgina Chapman and so many more.

Pamella Roland Spring/Summer 2011 Sneak Peek

08/26/2010 Fashion , , No Comments Posted by Lorna

Pamella Roland Fall 2010 collection, was one of my favorite last season. I loved her slick, sexy, and dazzling collection of dresses. The collection included metallic pieces with crystal applique, great silhouettes, and so many more fun pieces. Needless, to say I am super excited to see the Spring Collection from Roland. And, if these advance images are indication of what’s to come, my excitement is justified.

The drawings were inspired by her recent travels to the Greek Isles and artistic muse Theodoros Stamos. Roland, fell in love with the city’s magical quality and was inspired to create a collection infused with light draping fabrics with lively vibrant color palettes.

I am looking forward to see how inspiration designs translates into the Spring 2011 collection. Based on what has been released this collection will feature goddess-like cocktail dresses and evening gowns in asymmetrical silhouettes. I, for one, can not wait.

Kmart Launches New Interactive Fall 2010 Campaign

Kmart, has always offered its customers affordable clothing that is almost always high quality and comfortable. However, Kmart is not always perceived as the most trendy or fashionable place to shop for the latest styles. So to ramp up their image, the retailer, hired photographer Alexi Lubomirski (V Magazine, GQ) to shoot the Fall campaign that is schedule to debut in the September 2010 issue of Vogue – the K-Mart’s Fall fashion spread.

Of the fall campaign, Kathy Huynh, VP of Women’s Apparel Design, says “we want fresh fashion that’s on-trend but it also understandable and affordable. It’s about buying those few new pieces and incorporating them into your wardrobe to give everything else a fresh lift.”

Indeed, this latest collection includes the latest must have fall styles. Expect to see a Pepper Jacket with shoulder embellishments, a Rocker Chic Bomber Jacket, high-waisted peplum military jacket and Distressed Skinny Denim.

Check out the Fall Collection, and enter to win a shopping spree. Hurry.

Levi’s Launches “Levi’s Curve ID”

For some reason, I decided that denim jeans was not for me. Just like that, I stopped wearing any jeans; I felt that they didn’t flatter my figure and I did not find them stylish. So, I was happy with my decision and never ever looked back. However, it seems the universe has other plans for me and its actively campaigning for me to reconsider my stance on jeans. You see, I was gifted with Hello Skinny Jeans, which much to my surprised I loved; then, the fabulous people behind Charlotte Russe gave a pair of Jeggins and like my Hello’s! – I love my jeggings and I am not ashamed to admit it. And, now Levi’s is getting in on the action. I received a very enticing invitation to attend a media party to eat ice cream, drink, eat, preview their line and take home a pair of jeans. Uhm yes, I was sold.

It seems Levi’s has finally figured out what we women have known for a long time that – “All Asses Were Not Created Equal.” Boy, I know. So, they created a line of denim jeans for three shapes. So, they are jeggins, straight leg pants, boot cut, all individually designed for the three shapes. Smart, right? What’s even smarter the lovely staff will measure and tell your shape. No need to guess.

Here are the lines:

Slight Curvedesigned to celebrate straight figures Slight Curve is designed to define a woman’s waist, while accentuating her curves. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs but are too tight in the waist, a woman should try the Slight Curve.

Demi Curvedesigned to fit even proportions Demi Curve is designed to flatter a woman’s waist, while smoothing her shape. If jeans usually fit in the waist, but don’t flatter the figure, a woman should try the Demi Curve.

Bold Curvedesigned to honor genuine curves Bold Curve is designed to hug the waist, without gapping or pulling. If jeans usually fit in the hips and thighs, but gap in the back, a woman should try the Bold Curve.

I am a demi curve and I seriously love the way my new jeans fit and they are super stylish. How can it not be? Its Levi’s after all.

Want a pair for yourself? Well, if you are NYC, Levi’s is offering giving New Yorkers an opportunity to get a free pair of jeans. Details here.
