Thillist’s Hamptons Anniversary Party

08/04/2010 Featured Stories , No Comments Posted by Lorna

Guess who is taking over the Hamptons one weekend trip at a time? Here, I will give you a hint- ME! I previously attended the Opening Day for the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge 2010 at Blue Star Jets.  And, this weekend thanks to those cheeky Thrillist folks, I once again made an appearance in the Hamptons.  Luckily for me, I celebrated the First Anniversary of  Thrillist Hamptons with a day party that included food, drinks and cool company.  What’s more, a select few were invited on a special Thrillist/Stoli sponsored bus which chauffeured guests from NYC to the party locale.

On Saturday morning tired and cranky bright eye and bushy tailed, I made my way to 267 Elizabeth Street (a not-yet-opened breakfast destination) for the first portion of the day long trip. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a breakfast taco and a wonderful selection of a tropical summer drinks, including my favorite childhood drink – Horchata.

At $19 this AMI Clubwear Floral rocker dress is a steal.  Its perfect for glam evening with friends (or that special someone) but its also great for a casual outing around town.  However, you “rock it” we think its a wonderful addition to your summer wardrobe and besides you may just love how it works for you.  But, you don’t have to take our word it.  Even some notables (and famous) personalities have their hands on this dress.

We recently spotted a fresh faced Demi Lovato in a black version of the dress (paired with a black cardigan) running errands around town; while singer Jojo was spotted with the white version of the dress at the VH1 Do Something Awards – and, she looks fantastic.

Susan Sarandon Wants to End Sex Trafficking and You can Help

08/02/2010 Around Town, Stories of the day No Comments Posted by Lorna

Last Friday, actress and activist Susan Sarandon, joined Somaly Mam, one of Nick’s heroes for a special press conference hosted by The Body Shop to kick off the  second phase of Stop Sex Trafficking Campaign.  The ‘Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People‘ aims to raise awareness on the wide spread practice of sexual slavery. The practice is so far reaching that even in America young people are not immune to its effects and practices.

This the second phase of the campaign.  This phase supports legislation to eliminate the sex trafficking of children and young people worldwide; by making Safe Harbor Laws the norm across the nation (currently only New York, Connecticut and Washington State have them). These laws are needed to protect children and young adults under 18 from being charged, prosecuted or imprisoned for prostitution.

The Body Shop wants to do something and they want your help. Starting today, the company is launching an online petition via a special site for the national creation of safe harbor laws. The Website will all any visitor to sign the petition via the Web site electronically.

But, that’s not all that the body shop is doing to end sexual slavery. The company will continue to donate the proceeds from the Soft Hands, Kind Heart Hand Cream and Bag for Life products to the Somaly Mam Foundation and to End Child Prostitution and Trafficking (ECPAT).

H&M Harlem Grand Re-Opening

07/30/2010 Around Town , No Comments Posted by Lorna

Last night H&M teamed up with Uptown Magazine for an invite-only and special shopping event to celebrate the grand-reopening of the H&M Harlem locale. The festivities included drinks, dancing, and of course sooooo much shopping.

Don’t worry H&M didn’t forget about the public. Today, when the store officially opens (at 10AM), the fabulous brand will offer the first 200 shoppers in line a free t-shirt along with a gift card valued anywhere from $10 to $300. But, that’s not all, one lucky winner will receive an All Access Fashion Pass that will allow the winner early entry to the store and a personal style consultation from an H&M stylist. You know you want to want it.

Can’t be there early? H&M got you. In addition to the early morning celebrations, H&M will offer great shopping deals all weekend long. Customers can look forward to buying ladies’ dresses starting at $3, men’s shirts starting at $5, and girls’ leggings starting at $3. So BE there early to get the GOOD stuff. And, remember no fighting.

While, the deep discounted merchandise and special activities are schedule to last for only a short time, the H&M commitment to supporting the local community will last much longer.  H&M is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem.  They will donate gift cards to club members and are making a financial grant to support their programs. But we love that these lucky kids will have early access (9am) on opening day for some serious shopping.
