If you know anything about fashion week, you know that Zac Posen is always a hard ticket to get and with good reason; Zac, after all has great fashion sense, always seems to put on a great show and his show often attract big names. The Fall/Winter 2010 show was no different, but we managed to get an invitation and so of course we said yes.  We loved every minute of it and even manage to get backstage access.

This season’s collection was held at the Altman Building and at the unfashionable time of 9am. Surprisingly (at least to me), a packed house of excited guest with notable attendees like  Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Patricia Field,  and Veronica Webb,  were spotted sitting front row!

The show began with a performance from Miri Ben Ari, a hip-hop violinist who got the crowd riled up with her energetic rendition of songs from musicians, Styles P of the Lox and Run DMC.  She continued her rousing performance, as a bevy of models including, Alex Wek, Sessilee Lopez, Coca Rocha, and Anna Cleveland, stumped the runway with gusto as they presented Zac latest collection. What else would you expect from models who have been mentored by J. Alexander himself?

The collection is youthful, vibrant and exquisitely tailored – with funky mix of rock, meets girly, with earthy hues. There was a noticeable emphasis on tailoring and proportions such as his Charcoal Felt Pant and strong emphasis on his daywear/sportswear collection – he presented a series of turtlenecks in varying hues of fall colors and fabrics.  His pantsuits and swing coats are classic, beautiful pieces reminiscent of a time long ago much like his elegant dresses that with the exception of a few floral-print numbers were no where to be found.  And, sadly, I was looking for them.  After all his reputation has been build on those elegant, red-carpet-ready gowns and when they disappear we are left to wonder, what’s next?

That said, the collection is great with a strong selection of pieces and prints which a strong range of selections. He presented 41 looks – that’s a lot of looks.
