Zac Posen For Target 24th-Hour Shopping Party

post thumbnail

On April 15th , 2010, the New Yorker Hotel ballroom was transformed into a shopping oasis where New York fashionistas came in droves to get first dibs on the limited edition pieces from the Zac Posen for Target collection which will officially hit stores April 25th nationwide.   The well-heeled New Yorkers who attended this 24-hour shopping extravaganza, were joined by celebrities such as Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Claire Danes, Selma Blair, Mena Suvari, Parker Posey, Michelle Trachtenberg, Olivia Palermo, Theodora and Alexandra Richards, Coco Rocha, Alek Wek, Sessliee Lopez and Kelly Bensimon to name a few.

Upon entry to the converted space, some patrons were able to give their best model stance and take a poloroid snapshot in front of a print ad for Zac Posen’s collection, followed by offerings of Mardi gras masks, glow rings & other party favors to add to this highly anticipated shopping event weeks in the making.  Perusing the racks which lined the ballroom, while sipping on champagne and strawberry vodkatinis, gave every shopper a taste of VIP treatment and the chance to shop in style.  But if sipping cocktails slowed your reflexes it was definitely to your detriment as fellow shoppers may have snagged the last size in that Tuxedo inspired body suit you had your eye on, which seemed to be the most popular item of the collection. Other must-haves included the multi-color safety pin print dress, the tuxedo pants suit and the eye catching red leather crop jacket.  The collection also reminded us that summer is just around the corner, with metallic one piece and bikini swimsuits which is this season’s staple and if you’re looking for a little coverage you could add the safety pin print sarong to your stash.

As the night wore on and more shoppers filled the room, your competitive instincts had to kick in as items were disappearing off the racks between blinks and lines for dressing rooms wrapped the entire 2nd level space.  Many shoppers waiting in line had enough items to open their own boutique.   While others decided they didn’t need to try the pieces, as time was of the essence and items were going fast.   So the savvy shopper’s technique was to buy everything they could get their hands on and do their fittings at home since Target has a 90 day return policy.  This I thought was a very smart strategy and couldn’t have thought of a better method myself.

Cheers,

Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2010 Collection Recap

A bevy of A-lister sat front row to preview Christian Siriano’s latest collection the 2010 Ready-to-Wear  Fall/Winter.  Celebrity spotted waiting patiently include Kat Deluna, Veronica Webb, Mena Suvari, DJ Leigh Lezark and Amber Rose but faithful readers may her as Kanye West future ex-wife.

The collection which he described as “very dark, mysterious, and a bit of a ’60s vibe,” was indeed dark–with a strong range of black and grey pieces. For a moment it seemed as the bold & imaginative Christian had left the building and replaced with a tamed version of himself. And, for a moment I was saddened.

He began the collection with his most  “ready-to-wear pieces.”  Now, while the beginning pieces were pretty they weren’t all exactly thrilling;   There was your beautifully draped dresses in wool, cashmere, and satin.  You also saw many classic silhouettes and  he managed to include some really great deconstructed pieces such as the Grey Chevron Wool Swing Coat.  Additionally, he was spot on with some of the trends we are seeing the season, such as the high waisted pants and metallic pieces. His metallic silk chiffon raglan sleeve blouse is stunning. But just when you were ready to give up on seeing the bold Christian that some of  become accustomed to, he shows up in the form of  his bold fuchsia looks.  The crowd and I, were noticeably pleased.

His fuchsia satin faced organza drapped cocktail dress with side loop, is a stunning example of what I love about him. That said like any good entertainer he saved his best for last when Sessilee Lopez walked the runway in his organza drapped bodice and scalloped tulle gown that seriously got a standing ovation from the packed house of fashionistas.  And, with that the show ended and my faith in Christian Siriano was restored.

Oh, and the shoes were amazing also part of his payless collection.

Stay tuned for images but in the meantime take a lot at the finale.
