Fashion Week Day Two Recap

As you know fashion week is in full swings so I decided to give a quick rundown of the happenings in the tents.  This season tents are much more subdued and more recession friendly that the previous seasons that I attended.  No fun giveaways or the usual excitement that is usually around when fashion week instead it seems as if people are scared of celebrating fashion.  I know, it doesn’t seem possible but it is.

And, even the shows seem to lack that excitement except for ThisDay Arise (was as a predicted a must see) that they once had with no seemingly over the top clothes.  Most are all ready to wear right of the runway so buyers are happy.  I’ve also noticed I a lot of the same colors repeated across many designers.  I’ve noticed a lot of corals, denim, blues, black, grays, and white. See all recession friendly colors.  Twinkle by Wenlan and Risto have been to exception out of the shows that I’ve seen.

Quick Run Down of the shows I saw yesterday:

Yigal Azrouel – As expected delivered an impressive collection with interesting geometry shapes and patterns and well constructed clothes. The collection is completely ready to wear with most colors being grey, black, coral and this orange dress that I couldn’t figure where it fit in the collection except for the fact that it was really pretty fun back.

Twinkle by Wenlan – Fun, fun prints with really well constructed pieces. The collection was overall cohesive.  Since, my personal style is more vibrant, I particularly enjoyed the color selection and the use prints which while not completely over the top they are completely noticeable.

Cynthia Rowley – And then the “carpet” comes down. The show was held at the always fun Gotham Hall with drinks to get you excited for the show which was set to look like a winter wonderland in summer. FUN.  This collection is clearly more “grown-up” than her collection but just as amazing.  The collection was styled amazingly well everything seem to flow so well.   The dresses and skirts are really impressive and fun with really cool materials.

Charlotte Ronson – Edited to add Charlotte Ronson as I forgotten about it. Perhaps it was because I was so high up and could barely see anything.  That said, I don’t think that I fully understood the collection.  Though, it was celeb studded.

Risto – The collection sort of reminded of a strange mix of change of season folliage with futureistic computer designs all set to a deep purple.  It included fun printed tights and bodysuits and I haven’t seen that yet this season.

ThisDay Arise – As expected the show drew a big crowd and it was well worth it. Four designers presented a collection and each seem to bring a different perspective so there was something for everyone and it was a really fun show. Tyson Beckford walked to runway to thunderous claps from the crowd.

Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week has officially starts today(09-09-09) the best day in my humble opinion.  Anyways yes its that time again- I know crazy! So, now you are wondering with so many shows, which are the must see.  As it turns, you are in luck. Why, you ask? Well,  because I narrowed down the list to make your life that much easier because that’s just the kind of girl that I am.  Thank You Very Much.  Now, if you are thinking Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, or DVF, or the likes made my list-Nope they did not; that’s for Anna Wintour. Instead, I decided to focus on shows that are more accessible yet equally exciting.
