A Bevy of Celebs Attend YSL Belle D’Opium Fragrance Launch

An impressive list of international press, socialites and other notables personalities gathered at the YSL Stage this past Thursday (June 17) for the YSL Belle D’Opium Fragrance Launch.

Even from a short distance away, the markings of great party were clear.  Luxury vehicles lined the street;  a red-carpet mat covered the walkway; and a bevy of photographers lingered around waiting to shoot any arriving guest.  The noise from the almost unstoppable flashing lights, which flickered at unimaginable speed, along with the sounds of the screaming photographers, was deafening and paralyzing. The photo-hogs shouted “over here,” “no over here,” “turn around,” to just about anyone who arrived.

Whitney Port‘s quick exit caused an instant frenzy among the already anxious lens-man, many of whom begged Whitney to pose for a picture, unfortunately she declines and says “when I come back!”

In a daze – I stop to watch the chaotic scene and I am temporarily unable to move

Kelis, Patti Labelle, and The Like, Rock out at ELLE’s Women Music Party

It may have been raining Wednesday (June 9) night, but it was certainly not dreary at the Highline Ballroom as Elle magazine kicked off a rockin’ night in tribute to the artistic women featured in the Women in Music July issue, hosted by Editor-in Chief Roberta Myers.

The open bar was flowing with the new Belvedere Grapefruit vodka as well as beer and wine, and there was plenty to nibble on: spicy chicken buffalo rolls, delicious three cheese pear puffs, fluffy goat cheese and chive baby quiches, and filling cheeseburger sliders.  Garnier Fructise created a hair station for those looking for a do more suited for the event or just looking to try something new.

The innovative New York City DJ Justine D had everyone’s feet moving as she spun the tracks that kept the electric, pulsating energy humming as the talented women took the stage throughout the night.

First up was the all female group The Like with their blend of songs from female groups of the 60’s delivered with a high energy, tenacious, and unflinching garage sound.  Keep a lookout for “Release Me”, the title track of the album released scheduled for release today (June 15th) and my favorite tune from this sassy, all girl, musical creation.

Next was surprise guest and musical legend Patti LaBelle who performed her hit “Lady Marmalade” as only she could, razzle and dazzling the crowd with her strong, magnetic vocal ability and charismatic personality.  She was utterly remarkable to watch! And, clearly loves the attention, Ms. Patti Labelle, stopped throughout her performance so fans could take her picture.  Even screaming “take my picture!” Now, that’s a star.

Last, and certainly not least, was the highlight of my night: Kelis, who performed a medley of songs including her new hit “Acapella.”  The exploding smash of the summer from her new album Flesh Tone scheduled for release on July 6th.  One performance  was a spicy and playful version of her hit “Milkshake” mingled with Madonna’s “Holiday.”  It was fresh and exciting to see Kelis donning her new look that was funky, edgy, feminine, ballsy, fun and she looked absolutely amazing!

There were plenty of celebrity guests enjoying the festivities for the night, including fashion designer Catherine Malandrino, Jennifer Williams of VH1’s Basketball Wives, model turned musician Cassie, and Whitney Port, Olivia Palermo and Roxy Olin of MTV’s hit series “The City.” It was a night of intrigue, music, celebration, and fun as everyone danced and drank the night away.  Elle’s Women in Music 2010 event was definitely a night to remember!

Cheers,

Lori Richardson

Ports 1961 Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

post thumbnail

Though the mood was noticeable somber because of the untimely death of Alexander McQueen, which left many fashionistas (including myself) devastated, the tents were still buzzing with activity.   We spotted Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo, from The City, sitting pretty in the front row.  After a moment of silence to honor Alexander McQueen the show began.

The Ports 1961 Fall 2010 collection is brilliant example of aviation attire completely revamped in an innovative, fashionable and dare-I say it chic collection for the woman on the go. Though, the Fall collection is vastly different from then the Summer 2010 collection which explored “beauty and nature,” this collection expands on this concept. The Fall collection also conceived by designer Tia Cibani who “ventures into a realm that is rooted in the past yet reaches for the future,” described the program notes.   Ms. Cibani, so exquisitely executes her vision with well tailored and structured pieces that are absolutely to die for and “totes” gorgeous.

Gone are the prints and free flowing dresses and replaced with jewel tones, tweeds, sculptural dresses and metallic pieces . We loved the wonderful structure of the harem pants as they are unlike any we saw this season. Additionally, the accessories with ceramic necklaces, epaulette collars, hats left us in fear of our wallet and showed true design ingenuity.
The collection was a cohesive collection of beautiful and aviation inspired duds that are surprisingly unique. We have a feeling if Amelia Earhart were alive today she would surely rock this collection.

“The City” Cast Parties at Guess by Marciano

A stiletto clad mob bombarded the doors of the Guess by Marciano store in Soho for their chance to rub elbows with MTV‘s ‘The City‘ cast members who were on hand the party and support the Susan G. Komen for The Cure Greater New York. Whitney Port, Olivia Palermo and  ELLE’s creative director Joe Zee were in attendance;  along with Ramona Singer, who looked amazing with her new shoulder length hair cut and Alex McCord and her partner in crime Simon van Kempen from Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York.

The party was jam packed with beautiful and fashionable industry insiders many of whom made sure to be in the direct line of the camera crew taping.  Seriously trying to get their 2 mili seconds of fame.  Yes, they were actually taping an episode of The City.

Squeezing and battling my way through the boutique and desperately looking for the bar or a server with a drink, I stumbled upon the tiniest hors d’oeuvres known to man.  I mean geez, there are some fashion people who do eat.  I tried some chicken and shrimp “appetizer” which I forgot about almost as soon as I ate the thing.  Fortunately, the wine was  so on point that the lack of food was forgiven.   The music provided by DJs Jamie Biden and Alexandra Richards was a wonderful distraction from the overcrowded event.  With a drink in hand and Jamiroquai’s Just Dance blasting on the speakers I found myself feeling quite content.  While scanning the room I caught a glimpse of Tinsley Mortimer, Rick Fox with his lovely arm candy Elisha Dushku and Marc Indelicato from ABC’s Ugly Betty among others.

But the highlight for me was for my minimal $5 donation that supported Susan G. Komen for The Cure Greater New York(one of sponsors for the party) I scored some fantastic swag.  I got one of those cute hangers that holds your purse on tables, it even has sparkles on it,  Lock and Mane dry shampoo, philosophy one-step facial cleanser and Essie nail polish in ruby slippers just to mention a few.  Jealous?…you should be

And, if you aren’t jealous already will be after you see the pictures….

Cheers Jenaya Singleton
